Bridemaids has been doing pretty well in the US box office surprising most of its producers and staff and even the cast members themselves. The film stars practically no big names in Hollywood but has shown that a great script is good enough to please people.
The female cast have all great moments and funny ones too. That is both a good thing and a bad thing as well. The many intertwining stories of the girls have often caused lack in continuity and focus on the film. One time it's about the bride, the other things it's about the bride's maid of honor and so on and so forth. That being said the film sometimes fall short in giving a climactic feel to keep audiences glued. The lines were witty lines but would pass mostly to American viewers. Bridesmaids lack international appeal and feels just another one of those films.
Direction is not that fluid causing some loop holes along the way. There are instances when people are on the groove to laughing but suddenly mood turns sour which is rather not nice. I am also confused as to what the main plot of the film is. Is it about the wedding? Is it about Kristen's love struggles? Is about being friends? Or is there really any solid plot to it? I guess I am not seeing it by much.
I applaud Kristen Wiig's performance but as for the otehr girls, I guess I am not that convinced. It's like they are trying to become a misfit version of "Sex and the City" which will never happen. Funny at times but not really superb! Overall, it's a 3 out of 5 popcorns for me.
