2017 TOP PINOY TV SHOWS

2017 was a big year for Pinoy TV and viewers were glued to their TV screens all year out. Here are my Top choices for best guilty TV pleasures in 2017.

1. The Greatest Love
For me this is possibly the greatest TV series of 2017. The story of family and conflicts within the household is focused in this series. With a spectacular performance by Sylvia Sanchez as the mother who yearns to have hear family back together before the effect of her sickness wipes out her memory, we certainly have shed a tear of two during its run at the afternoon block. The main cast was all noteworthy with Dimples Romana, Andi Eigenmann, Arron Villaflor, Nonie Buencamino, Matt Evans and Joshua Garcia all doing superb performances. The Greatest Love was definitely a winner and will always be a part of our hearts.

2. La Luna Sangre
With Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla topbilling this series, La Luna Sangre was destined for greatness. The third installment to the "Lobo' trilogy, it gives us one of the best written series of 2017. With a huge ensemble cast that delivers great fight scenes as much as wonderful dialogues, this series brings us to the land of the vampires and the werewolves and how the struggle for co-existence provides great conflict. This also marked the reunion of Angel Locsin and Richard Gutierrez in the small screen.

3. Encantadia
Encantadia's second coming to the Kapuso network may have not have the former casts that made the original such TV classics but the new ones still managed to pull in audiences. Still touted as one of the better fantaseryes in Philippine TV, Encantadia lets us be immersed into their world of beauty and wonder and then jolting us with the conflicts and troubles. The never-ending battle between good and evil and how the innermost goodness triumphs makes this series one of the gems of this generation.

4. Wildflower
Maja Salvador was simply amazing. And just like her namesake Ivy Aguas, this show seems indestructible. Our early evenings definitely changed with Wildflower. A gripping storyline that keeps us at the edge of our seats, this series showcased a great ensemble cast that includes veterans Aiko Melendez, Tirso Cruz III, Sunshine Cruz and hottest rising stars Joseph Marco, RK Bagatsing, Vin Abrenica and Roxanne Barcelo. The endless struggle to seek for justice is what keeps us hooked to this show and each encounter with Lily and the Ardientes are definitely must-watch. Good job!

5. Ang Probinsyano
Perhaps one of the better successes in Philippine TV for 2017, Ang Probinsyano provides audiences a daily viewing habit - something they can't seem to get over with. This Coco Martin starrer proves to be both a critical and ratings success. What makes this show more memorable is how it stars some of the rising stars of this age and also the veterans of the action industry that are missed through the years. With a story that is gripping and relatable, Ang Probinsyano is truly a hit with the viewers in 2017 and more of it are still up in 2018.

6. Ika-6 Na Utos
Revenge is a normal theme in Pinoy TV drama and this Kapuso series is of no exception. However what makes this one standout is the great performances by its actors - Sunshine Dizon, Gabby Concepcion and Ryza Cenon. The story tackles infidelity, adultery, covetousness, illegitimacy, lies, betrayal, selfishnes, revenge and successfully weaves this and more into a well crafted piece. The fight scenes might seem catty or a bit over the top bordering funny, still each scene was memorable and engages audiences to stay glued to their TV screens.

7. The Good Son
Just relatively new, The Good Son is one gripping drama that spells intrigue and family conflict written seamlessly and effortlessly portrayed on screen. With a stellar cast of veterans (Eula Valdez, Mylene Dizon, John Estrada) combined with the young and up-coming actors of this generation (Joshua Garcia, Jerome Ponce, McCoy De Leon and Nash Aguas), this drama is definitely one of the better series in the Kapamilya network in years.

8. It's Showtime
It was a daunting task for It's Showtime to match the success of the legend that is Eat Bulaga. But this Kapamilya show has slowly managed to make its own mark at the noontime block. With the comedic wits of Vice Ganda combined with an equally funny co-hosts in Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro, Billy Crawford to name a few, they have made our noontime a very happy experience indeed. With segments like Tawag ng Tanghalan, Miss Q&A and Funny One, they have indeed reinvented the way noontime viewing should be.

9. Gandang Gabi Vice
2011 saw this breakthrough show make its debut in ABS-CBN and ever since this has become a part of everyone's Sunday viewing pleasures. The wit of Vice is shown as he jolts from one joke to another and one punchline to the next one. With guests ranging from great actors, singers and even politicians, GGV  has managed to tickle our funny bones and end our weekend on a happy note.

10. Magandang Buhay
Who would have thought that Magandang Buhay would be a hit? Karla Estrada, Melai Cantiveros and Jolina Magdangal successfully joined forces and made our morning much brighter. The reel and real-life friends shares all life's wonders from friendships, travels, food and a whole lot more. Magandang Buhay is simple and pure in its intentions - that is making our every day a great day.

11. Maalaala Mo Kaya
MMK celebrated its 26th year in TV and there simply is no stopping this drama series. Charo Santos-Concio continues to narrate great stories of life, love and everything in between. With big stars lending their acting chops all throughout the year, MMK continues to win the ratings war and is still a part of people's regular TV habits.

12. My Dear Heart
This tearjerker series is one of most heart-felt shows in 2017. We are introduced to one of hottest new finds of ABS-CBN and that comes at the face of kid star Nayomi "Heart" Ramos. In 2017, I am sure that one or more times you have uttered the heartwarming "I Heart You" and I can't blame you for that. Coney Reyes again proves that she is one of showbiz' gems.

13. i-Witness
The best documentary in the Philippines remains to be one of the best things to happen in the local TV scene. Been in the TV scene from 1999, this docu-series continues to provide interesting stories to every Filipino. Tackling mostly political issues of the country, the show has remained focused in giving out info that is true and without any bias.

14. Eat Bulaga
The longest running noontime show in the country, Eat Bulaga continues to bring in viewers from all ages. The tried and tested formula of fun makes them one worthy watch every noontime. What makes them really click is the ability to connect with the masses and able to make themselves silly just to make people laugh.

15. Impostora
This Kris Bernal starrer is one of the few gems on GMA's afternoon block. While the plot seems familiar with a dual role being the main focal point, the series somehow made people tune in with dialogues that are oftentimes subjects of memes.

Here are the rest of 2017's best TV shows.
