It was a historic turn at the 2020 Academy Awards as South Korean foreign language film "Parasite" etched itself as one for the books in the history of the Oscars. It rewrote the books at the annual most prestigious movie award-giving body as it became the first non-English film ever to win the top prize at the Academy beating out front-runners 1917 and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.
Coming into the night with 6 nominations, the critically-acclaimed film ended up winning 4 awards, 3 of which are major categories Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Director wherein Bong Joon-Ho surprised directing heavyweights Quentin Tarantino, Sam Mendes and Martin Scorcesse. The film also added the Best International Feature Film plum to round its great success at this year's ceremony.
