This is a long overdue review of the famous BL series from 2019 which ended its run early January of this year, Tharntype but I am still gathering all my senses and emotions after watching this wonderful series. And after all the episodes I can firmly place this series as one of the best BL series of all time.
What really works? First and foremost the strength of this series lies on its two leads - Mew Suppasit Jongcheveevat who plays Tharn and Gulf Kanawut Traipipattanapong who portrays Type. Mew as you may be familiar with, can be considered a veteran and we all loved him for his role in "What The Duck" and he made me fall in love again with charming portrayal of the sweet and loving Tharn. Relative newbie in BLs Gulf did a splendid job as well in giving life to the homophobic and arrogant Type who later on shows a softer side of himself. Their chemistry is palpable and one could really feel the warmth in their relationship.
The story is also grounded and very well written. It is perhaps one of the best stories of recent times. Even if we are in another university setting, it came a little different with how the story focuses on Tharn and Type's relationship and hot it grew from constant bickering to a budding love affair. The pacing of the story is also great making everyone want to tune in every episode. It is one of the few series that is successful in giving the fun part, kilig parts and also the tear-jerker scenes.
The rest of the cast was also notable moreso Techno which is played well by Mild Suttinut Uengtrakul. He is the one that occasionally provides the fun and light moments of the show enough to balance out the more serious areas. The balance between juggling from the main story line to its support characters was well done giving all of the cast their respective time to shine without taking away the main spotlight with Mew and Gulf.
Also standing out for this series is how well the music is sewn into the main story. We are further invoked of the right emotions with a great selection of melodies and tunes that spell happiness, love and also despair & sadness. It makes the series more relatable to people.
Tharntype is truly one of the gems in the world of BL series and I am sure that many fans and followers could agree on how great this show is. It gives us all the right things and makes us realize simple things in life that could make us happy like the true emotions of love and relationship. It has made its way as one of the best in this genre and even up to now I am still not over the Tharntype fever.
