Music in 2018 saw a big boost in terms of popularity, commercial success, critical praises and diversity. And for the past year, here are the guys that dominated the airwaves and headlines of the music industry.
1. Drake
Drake made 2018 such a dominant year for him with the release of his most recent album 'Scorpion". The rapper's newest set produced hit songs one after the other from the well-received "God's Plans", "Nice for What" and the super dance hit "In My Feelings" which became a global phenomenon with lots of people doing their own dance covers.
2. Post Malone
Post Malone continues to establish himself as one of the best in the music biz. His critically acclaimed and highly successful album "Beerbongs & Bentleys" was a masterpiece and a gem that gave us great singles like "Psycho" and "Better Now". He also delivered the song 'Sunflower" which is part of the OST of "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" film.
3. Shawn Mendes
Shawn Mendes released his latest album aptly titled "Shawn Mendes" in 2018. The talented and handsome Canadian gave us hit songs like "Lost In Japan" and the highly streamed and listened track "In My Blood" and released a highly loved music video for it as well.
4. Khalid
2018 is one great year for Khalid and his most memorable single of the past year is arguably his collaboration with the talented Normani "Love Lies". He is one true gem in the hip-hop world and arguably one of the best of this generation.
5. Ed Sheeran
Singer, musician, producer, writer - name it and Ed Sheeran has it all. This talented artist made himself busy promoting his album from 2017 ÷ (pronounced "divide"). "Perfect" made the list on several global charts and his duet version of the song with Beyonce was also well received.
6. Zac Efron
Zac Efron continues his stellar career in the whole of entertainment industry successfully moving from TV to movies to music. In 2018, his song with Zendaya "Written In The Stars" from the "The Greatest Showman" film is one of the past year's most listened song.
7. Childish Gambino
Donald Glover or in the case of music fans Childish Gambino made noise in the past year with his politically intriguing single "This Is America".
8. Calum Scott
While Britain's Got Talent made him a household name, he made his own mark in the music industry with power ballads and emotional singles that people love so much. His best song on my opinion remains to be "If Our Love is Wrong" although this has not been officially released as his single.
9. Bruno Mars
Superstar Bruno Mars keeps on getting more successful than ever. In 2018, he released a well received single with Cardi B, "Finesse" which is one of the best catchy tunes of the past year.
10. Juice WRLD
The most outstanding debut by an artist in 2018 comes from Juice WRLD with "Goodbye & Good Riddance". His single "Lucid Dreams" is one of the most successful songs of 2018 and is indeed a start of a great career ahead.
11. Kendrick Lamar
Although Kendrick did not release any new album for 2018, he still managed to make headlines with his collaboration "All the Stars" with SZA.
12. Sam Smith
One of the most loved male artists of the LGBTQ community, Sam Smith's rise to the top of the music business is keeping on a great pace. His "Promises" song which he collaborated with Calvin Harris is one of his bigger hits to date.
13. J Balvin
Colombian reggaeton singer J Balvin is one of the Latin artists that is continuing its rise to the top. After a successful single "Mi Gente" in 2017 he gave us two outstanding songs that made it super successful in 2018 - "X" with Nicky Jam and the "I Like It" collaboration with Cardi B and Bad Bunny.
14. Justin Bieber
Beliebers have some great reasons to rejoice in 2018. Although he did not release any new solo single, he appeared in the star-studded song "No Brainer" with DJ Khaled, Chance the Rapper and Quavo.
15. Charlie Puth
Charlie released a new album "Voicenotes" in 2018. One of the songs that made headlines for him is this song with Kehlani "Done for Me".
16. The Weeknd
The Weeknd remains to be one of the best artistic musicians of this generation and he remains to be prominent in the music scene in 2018. His "Pray for Me" with Kendrick Lamar and "Call Out My Name" added to the long list of his discography.
17. Chris Brown
Chris Brown's career is one that encompasses several ups and downs. No new albums but several music collaborations made him busy with "Freaky Friday" together with Lil Dicky proving to be the most successful in 2018.
18. Justin Timberlake
Justin's latest album received mixed results for the talented singer in 2018. The album delivered 3 moderate hits "Filthy", "Supplies" and "Say Something".
19. Lauv
I Like Me Better was released in 2017 but still found great success in 2018. This further solidified Lauv's name as one of the hottest new artists on the past few years.
20. Eminem
Eminem's latest album "Kamikaze" was a resounding success after a lukewarm reception of 2017's "Revival". I guess the real slim shady is finally back with his single "Lucky You" giving him the most success in 2018.
