2018 TV has been a great joy to viewers with both commercial success and critical acclaim. With Game of Thrones and Stranger Things taking breaks in 2018, it was still a solid year in the small screen. Here are the best the boob tube has to offer for the year that was.
1. Pose
Last Year: N/A
Pose is a triumph for LGBTQ representation in mainstream American TV. This American drama television series is about the New York City's African-American and Latino LGBTQ and gender-nonconforming ballroom culture scene. Aside from a strong performance from the cast, this series also excels in its visual spectacle - costumes and set design that makes for an enjoyable binge-watch.
2. Titans
Last Year: N/A
While fans look at this TV series as rather dark in tone, this newest addition to the growing line of DC universe success in the small screen is one of the few ones I did genuinely enjoy. I enjoy the cast as a whole but show tremendous support to Ryan Potter who plays Gar/Beast Boy.
3. American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace
Last Year: N/A
One of the highly acclaimed TV mini-series for 2018, this show deals with the story behind Gianni Versace. The strength of this show lies on the great acting chops of its cast specially with Darren Criss playing Andrew Cunanan.
4. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Last Year: N/A
When we say Sabrina we usually think of the quirky series in the 90s with Melissa Joan Hart but this new adventures of the beloved witch shows us into a much darker side of this character and we are hooked from the beginning.
5. Riverdale
Last Year: 3
The Archie comics universe made a great dive into the live-action genre last year with Riverdale and it continued to gain critical and fan success with its last season. And with Sabrina also joining the fray, we are sure to see more of the beloved characters in TV for quite some time. The series has given us hot new stars in KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse much to our delight.
6. Rupaul's Drag Race
Last Year: N/A
I have just joined the Rupaul bandwagon in 2018 backtracking all prior episodes and I immediately loved the reality show. It has certainly improved through the years and the 10th season continued this trend. this breakthrough series hosted by Rupaul shows that it is great to be queer and colorful.
7. The Handmaid's Tale
Last Year: 11
This compelling drama followed up its 2017 season with another strong season. The plot continues on the dystopian plot and remains to put solid performance from actress Elisabeth Moss.
8. Homecoming
Last Year: N/A
Homecoming is an American psychological thriller web television series, based on the podcast of the same name. This breakthrough drama stars Julia Roberts who shined in every episode of this series.
9. Glow
Last Year: N/A
Netflix made another successful turn in 2018 with this comedy-drama. Glow is certainly one of the delightful series of the past year and has steadily gained more and more viewers.
10. 13 Reasons Why
Last Year: 7
13 Reasons Why continued to be one of the bigger draws for Netflix but although this season is not as strong as the first season, it was still a solid follow-up. Dylan Minnette remained as one of the series lead and this early reports of a 3rd season has also spread.
11. Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Last Year: N/A
The highest police drama in my list belongs to Brooklyn Nine-Nine and its 5th season remains to be one of the series stronger ones in terms of plot and story.
12. How to Get Away with Murder
Last Year: 19
This legal thriller remains to be one of the best series of today. And as expected Viola Davis remains as one of the best actresses in the biz.
13. Orange is the New Black
Last Year: 24
Orange is the New Black is still one of the better comedies of recent years. The ensemble cast keeps up with their great performances from prior season and delivered another season of wonderful episodes to watch.
14. Legion
Last Year: 5
Last year's season was a bit of a lull for the series but loyal fans like me would still enjoy this Marvel show. Just when we thought mutants would be automatically be equated with the X-men, Legion made us love them as well.
15. Survivor (TV Series)
Last Year: 29
While Game Changers were amazing last year, Survivor kept the winning streak with its 37th season David vs Goliath getting old and new fans glued with all drama and action. And they are not stopping with new seasons already planned for 2019.
16. Haunting of Hill House
Last Year: N/A
This American anthology supernatural horror drama web television series gave us enough thrills and hair-raising moments in 2018 to land as one of the best from last year.
17. American Vandal
Last Year: 16
This "mockumentary" delivered one of the best surprises of 2017 and has kept on a strong showing on its sophomore outing. The series is a parody of true crime documentaries such as Making a Murderer and Serial.
18. Daredevil
Last Year: N/A
For me, i still believe that Daredevil remains to be Marvel's best series to date. And although this show is not as successful as other Marvel content in the small screen, it has all the right amount of drama, action and darkness that makes for an enjoyable watching habit.
19. Lucifer
Last Year: N/A
Funny and captivating. Lucifer is one of the few series that just keeps audiences asking for more. Tom Ellis in the titular role is perhaps the greatest reason for this show's enormous success through the years.
20. Queer Eye
Last Year: N/A
I still love the prior incarnation of this series but to its merit the new edition of the show with the new set of cast/hosts is still good enough to make me watch and be a fan.
The rest of the best series and shows for 2018 are as follows:
