JHONMARK MARCIA WINS MR. PHILIPPINES MODEL 2011

This post may be coming a bit late (sorry as my laptop has crashed) but still it is with great enthusiasm that I share this info to all of you. In the recently concluded search for Mr. and Ms. Philippines Model 2011, Jhonmark Marcia, a favorite model by our local photographers took the top prize for men. The event was held at the UP Film Center last April 9, 2011.

Marcia is an early favorite even on the pre-selection and is surely a worthy winner that night. He stood out among the rest with his great physique, nice looks and confidence & bearing. He strut his way on the runway wearing different sets of clothes from fashion statetment clothes courtesy of BOBON, formal wear and swimming trunks.

The victory means JhonMark will represent the country in the upcoming Mr. Universe Model 2011 at the Dominican Republic this coming May. The pictures speak for themselves right?

MOVIE REVIEW: GNOMEO AND JULIET

The most famous of all Shakespeare novels make its way to the big screen anew. This time via an animated retelling of the beloved "Romeo and Juliet". And unlike the tragic novel we have long known, this new animated feature takes us to a different setting and different tone.

We are all welcomed to the world of the Gnomes, thus the monicker of Gnomeo rather than Romeo. We all dive into the world of two warring family of gnomes - the reds and the blues. Gnomeo is from the Blue family while her love interest Juliet is from the Red family. The film has fun spelled all over it as even the trailers suggest. The music from Elton John adds to the humor of the scenes as well. The supporting characters also give the added spark to this animated feature. Not as brilliant or moving as "Up" or "Toy Story" and not as much fun as "Kung Fu Panda", still this film made me laugh and smile.I am not too much happy with the seemingly abrupt ending but overall the story was nice.

We all need to believe not to live in the past. We are created to have lives of our own - free from conflicts from the past and just share love to whomever we want to share it. Overall, Gnomeo is a 3.5 out of 5 popcorns!

WHEN DEATH IS INEVITABLE

What would you do when you are just waiting for the time?
We all live in this world on borrowed lives. We don't know how long we'll be living or when our lives would come to an end. But what would you do if you know that you're time is up? How would you feel and what would be your reaction? Surely one will be dumbfounded to discover he/she is dying. But we can't do anything about it. All we can do is just patiently wait. And while waiting, it is good to do some nice things. For sure people who loves us will miss us so why not show them how much you love them as well. If only we are given few more days, we should spend it giving love and attention to others. Life is indeed short and death could come in surprises. Now, while we know that we're still okay, always remember to live each day as if it is your last. You'll never know.

MOVIE REVIEW: RED RIDING HOOD

Set in a medieval village, this modern retelling of the classic children's tale surely did create some stir. I included "Red Riding Hood" in my list of most anticipated films in 2011 and boy it did not disappoint.

Caught in a conflict between love and family tradition, Valerie aptly played by Amanda Seyfried must brave all the problems along the way. The texture of the film is commendable as it can be seen with the sheer cinematography and nice editing. For people who loved the children classic, it surely is a brave retelling of that. In some ways or another, the film may be a bit dark and disturbing to young viewers but it was all worth it. It combined the great appeal of the tale and the "Twilight" inspired setting to create a new world of make believe.

Aside from the outstanding scenes, Seyfried was exceptional and played her role perfectly. If you enjoyed the complexities of the werewolves in Twilight, then you'll surely take a bite on this film as well. This one's a 3.5 out of 5 popcorns.

I MISS PERFORMING

I miss performing, may it be dancing or singing in front of the crowd. The last time I have performed really was with P&G, most notable is my participation in one of their Rockstar contests. Although, I am not a full blood rocker, it still is music and I just have so much musicality in me. I am more of a balladeer and a crooner. You could ask my friends about it.

I miss those days. I wonder when I'll be able to perform again. My love for the performing arts, dancing, music and singing is really great that I am eager of sharing my talents again to the people. :)

MOVIE REVIEW: CATCH ME, I'M IN LOVE

Star Cinema has again triumphed in giving us another rom-com. This time it is with an untested tandem yet the results were still overwhelming. The success of "Catch Me, I'm In Love" has boiled speculations of a sequel.

The film revolves on a heaven and earth romance with a presidential son and a regular volunteer worker. The story is the normal story that we see on Philippines love stories but still it was nice to watch. At first I was hesitant to watch it as I don't think Gerald Anderson and Sarah Geronimo has that chemistry. But after watching the film, I think they do have the love connection. They played their parts really well. Gerald was convincing in his portrayal of a hard headed presidential son while Sarah was funny as usual.

The support cast was also good and there were plenty of fun moments in the film. There were some dramatic moments but I guess they did not put much on it as they feel making this film fun would attract more audiences. The story has loopholes and some of the characters like the one played by Matteo Guidicelli did not grab much highlights.

Overall, this is 3.5 popcorns out of 5.

AJ BIDS US GOODBYE

Young ABS-CBN talent and rising star, AJ Perez has bade his last farewell at the age of 18. He died in a vehicular accident last April 17, 2011 at 12:10 a.m. on MacArthur Highway, Barangay San Julian, in Moncada, Tarlac.

The whole showbiz industry and Filipinos alike were shocked to hear such sad news. Aj is a member of Star Magic Batch 13 and has been a regular in Tv shows for his mother studio ABS-CBN. Most notable of which is his starring role as one of the leading men in "Sabel" opposite Jessy Mendiola. His last film was with Eugene Domingo "Mamarazzi".

His death surely is a saddening moment. Let's all pray for his soul and for the peace of all his loved ones. You will be missed, AJ. Thanks for the nice days you have given us.

SUPSUP, NECIO AND MANJON ROUND UP BB. PILIPINAS 2011 WINNERS

The 2011 edition of the Bb. Pilipinas was definitely a success in most aspects and the biggest triumph is the crop of titlists selected to represent our country in international competitions. Bb. Pilipinas World is not included as the titles for thsi year's edition but BPCI handed out a Bb. Pilipinas Tourism title instead.

Early favorite Shamcey Supsup grabbed the plum and bested the rest of the 40-strong field of ladies as she was crowned Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2011. Supsup showed beauty, elegance and brains on her way to the crown. Supsup graduated magna cum laude with a degree in BS Architecture from UP Diliman. In 2010, she topped the Architect Licensure Exam as well.

Meanwhile, Diane Necio took the Bb. Pilipinas International title. For beauty pageant enthusiasts, you may recognize her from last year as the first runner-up. She has just shown that one can succeed with constant tries and perseverance.

Isabelle Manjon took the Bb. Pilipinas Tourism crown ahead of 1st runner-up Janine Tugonon and 2nd runner-up Mary Jean Lastimosa.

PIA TOSCANO IS OUT - I'M SAD :(

The lates elimination of American IDol saw my favorite bow out of the competition, Pia Toscano. This came as a shocking surprise to me as there are other contestants who I think should have been axed first. She has been my bet together with Casey Abrams and Stefano Langone. She has a wonderful voice coupled by a very strong presence on stage. She also exudes confidence and I might say is pretty as well.

I guess the viewers and voters of AI have different points of view that left Pia out in the running.

Bye, Pia!

MY BINIBINING PILIPINAS 2011 PICKS

I am so delighted to see the crop of beautiful ladies vying for this year's Binibining Pilipinas titles. I haven't seen any year that has this so much beauty and elegance. But there are names that are becoming favorites and with the coronation night scheduled tonight, I am posting my top 10 bets. The choices were really difficult. I had to make several changes. I wish all the ladies the best of luck and hope they win in the respective international pageants they would represent. I also picked my bets for the top 3 titles.

1. Sabrinne Al-Tawil (my Bb. Pilipinas Universe bet)
She has a certain Latina feel and could parallel the Latin American beauties from Venezuela and Brazil

2. Dianne Necio (my Bb. Pilipinas International bet)
Somehow she reminds me of Precious Lara Quigaman who I loved during her Binibini days.

3. Shamcey Supsup (my Bb. Pilipinas Tourism bet)
Intelligent and well poised
4. Arabella Hanesh

5. Patricia Tumulak

6. Mary Jean Lastimosa

7. Elizabeth Clemci
8. Martha McCulley

9. Carolyn Ty

10. Angelia Ong

NESTLE CELEBRATES 100 YEARS WITH "PAG-IBIG"

Nestle has been one of the big names in the food and beverages industry and this year, they are celebrating their century year in the Philippines.

I am a big Milo drinker and surely it is one of the best chocolate drinks ever. Then there's Bear Brand, Nido, Nescafe, Nestea and Maggi to name some more. And how could anyone forget the sweet flavors of their ice creams.

On their 100 years, they share with us a touching TVC "Pag-Ibig". Truly Nestle will continue to be a part of our lives much like true love is.

PINK NETWORK

Well, yeah. People from the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer/Questioning) do have networks. This is one way of meeting new people. Even if the world is getting more and more welcoming, there's still some room for prejudice and all. And aside from casual meet-ups in bars, clubs and bath houses, people from the LGBTQ community also go into networking sites. Not just Facebook, Twitter or Friendster. We actually have sites specially dedicated for us. Here are the 4 sites that I recommend and believe are used by most Filipinos.

1. Downelink
- Of the four I have in here, I highly recommend this one. It has somehow a Facebook feel in it and a bit of sophistication and chic. The dashboard does not really spell much of an LGBTQ site but looks like a normal networking site. What's so nice is that you can add friends in here much like FB and Friendster and can do a profile much akin to Multiply and Myspace. Aside from that, there are many more ways to intreact with the users (not just messaging and posting to wall). In here you can participate in forums, do blogs and enjoy the video chat (reminiscent of the old G4M chat) as well. Pretty cool eh. :)

2. Planet Romeo
- PR as it is more commonly known is actually a spot for meet-ups. Back then it was known as G4M (guys 4 men) and has the video chat to boot and the forums. But with the new name comes new stuff which sadly does not include the chat. Still a good place to cruise for possible EBs or SEBs.

3. Manjam
- If you're more into meeting foreigners, here's a spot for you. I think onlt few Filipinos use this. Aside from restrictions on number of views and messaged per day, the functionalities and features of this site is not much to brag about.

4. Lifeout
- If you like tons of action (videos of you know what), here's your haven. But aside from the videos and pics to salivate with, nothing much is left with regards interactivity and oftentimes gets a bit slow just moving from page to page.

What are you waiting for? Join any of these sites and discover more on the colorful world of the LGBTQs.

MOVIE REVIEW: SUCKER PUNCH

Zack Snyder takes us to a different ride with his latest film "Sucker Punch".
And yes, you will be treated to a different world as well. We all dive into an imaginary world created by one of the story's leads, Baby Doll (played by Emily Browning). As she gets into the mental institute, she finds herself entangled with different people and finding 4 other female souls who are all eager to get out. She dances her way to her imaginary world and we are all taken into it as well. The story and the way it was presented might be a bot mind boggling for most people but it is really the movie's appeal. We get to experience the world of the mentally distressed and see how they survive. In here we enter a world way beyond our realm and thinking. We are somehow asked to dive into the world of those mentally unstable ones.

The story is different but in a good way. Some of the portions might be predictable but still this one is a good ride. The action sequences are wicked and the graphics are commendable. The other ladies giving up the added spice to this action flick are Amber (Jamie Chung), Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), Rocket (Jena Malone) and her older sister Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish). The film was virtually entertaining and for the guys the sexiness of the ladies especially Abbie Cornish is a plus. The message was sent across towards the end of the film. Yup, it is true that we ourselves are the keys to our own freedom. And although we discover it usually when some have been lost already, it is still important that we find that key and use it to open the doors of our lives. Never get trapped into a world that you don't want. We have choices.

4 out of 5 popcorns.

MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 3: FATE OF TWO WORLDS ROCK

Yup, I have been a fan of the games from its first edition and up to the latest - Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. This edition is something I really enjoy but there were some characters that I miss that I think should have been there. (Cable, Psylocke, Strider Hiryu, Iceman, Gambit, Rogue, Captain Commando and Venom) And man though 36 selectable characters is decent, the 56 to choose from in Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 is something that is to be missed. There were some odd choices as well in this edition of the game. For me Arthur, Amaterasu, Viewtiful Joe and Hsien Ko should have been left off.

The gaming experience was much like the 2nd edition in terms of gamplay. And it was sure a wonderful addition to the growing fighting games collection. Graphics were intense so much more with the combos of each characters. Visuals were just hot and one could really be enjoying the entire day with their joysticks.

As for me, I have enjoyed using the girl characters more as I find them more agile and quick. And here are the characters I usually use.

MY TOP 20 SONGS FOR THE WEEK (WEEK OF MARCH 27, 2011)

Here are the top songs for the weekend of March 27, 2011. Enjoy listening.

CHIAROSCURO AT THE REPUBLIQ

March 30, 2011 marks one day where individuals gather for one great cause.
Chiaroscuro, a party for My ShelterFoundation's "Isang Litrong Liwanag" campaign was held at the Republiq bar in Newport Mall, Resorts World Manila, Pasay City. The event was a collaborative effort from Republiq, My ShelterFoundation, PMAP (Professional Model Association of the Philippines) and FaDAL (Fashion Designers Alliance) Manila. This is an event for a cause as they try to light on a million homes. The videos on the event showing the "Isang Litrong Liwanag" campaigns was just hair raising. Hope we can all support on this endeavor. (a separate post will be done for this one). Proceeds of the fashion show/party/event will alll go to this great campaign as we all try to light a million homes.

Aside from host Sam Oh, Republiq's Tim Yap and Illac Diaz, the hightlight of the night came when designs by FaDAL designers were shown to the public focusing on the ideas of dark and light. The designers on board for the show were Cheetah Rivera, Cherry Veric, Clint Worm, Dave Ocampo, Gerswin Qua, Lev Rodriguez, Jaz Cerezo, Karl Leuterio & Mike Magallanes of Paradigm Shift, Jilla Sara, Lizanne Cua, Nico Agustin, Mark Tamayo, Noelle Llave, and Ulysses King.

Here are some of the designs taken from my phone. I enjoyed every piece from all designers. It was really a masterful set of creative juices bordering from conventional, sophisticated, avant garde and extraordinary. truly a marvel to watch.
