2018 TOP INTERNATIONAL FEMALE ARTISTS

The female artists of 2018 have shown a tremendous amount of success both commercially and critically. It was one of the strongest years for music for ladies with a lot of younger talents taking center stage. Here are the best of the past year.

1. Ariana Grande
Ariane released her brand new album last year "Sweetener" which was a hit with critics and moreso with audiences. She blasted the charts with 3 hit songs for the year - "Breathin'", "God is a Woman" and the carrier single to the album "No Tears Left to Cry."

2. Halsey
Halsey is one of the new favorite female artists and she has proven how talented she really is. In 2018, she gave us the emotionally-driven hit "Without Me". This single became her first No.1 at the Billboard 100.

3. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga is one of the finest singers/artists as of now. Her recent turn into the world of movies was well received as well. The movie "A Star is Born" produced two hits - "Shallow" with Bradley Cooper and the emotional "I'll Never Love Again".

4. Cardi B
2018 is a breakthrough year for Cardi B. She ruled the Billboard Hot 100 charts for few weeks with her "I Like It" single and also joined Maroon 5 for the super successful "Girls Like You". She also collaborated with Bruno Mars for the dance tune "Finesse".

5. Normani
Normani is someone that is overflowing with talent. She is perhaps one of the better singers/dancers/performers of this new generation. She continues to wow audiences and collaborated with Khalid for the song "Love Lies".

6. Taylor Swift
Taylor dropped her recent album "Reputation" in 2017 and although it received mixed reactions with critics, I still love her that much. She continued to release new singles for 2018 and my personal favorites for the year include "Delicate" and "End Game" with Ed Sheeran and Future.

7. Ella Mai
Arguably the best new artist of the year. Ella Mai blasted into everyone's consciousness with her R&B song "Boo'd Up" which made her an instant household name to mainstream music lovers.

8. Janelle Monae
If we are talking about artistry at the highest level then you can't say anything about Janelle Monae. She continues to challenge the norms with her eclectic sounds and videos which makes her one of the well loved musicians of this generation.

9. Dua Lipa
After a stellar debut in 2017, Dua Lipa kept her momentum going last year. Although her songs failed to generate same success as her song "New Rules", they still generated good enough sales and critical praise. Her best work in 2018 were IDGAF and "One Kiss" with Calvin harris.

10. Zendaya
Zendaya is one of the few young artists who have successfully juggled movie and music and do well in both. Her duet with Zac Efron "Written in the Stars" from the film "The Greatest Showman" is an instant hit and has become a regular karaoke tune for most people.

11. Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato released "Sober" in 2018 which somehow mirrored her personal challenges. She also was featured Christina Aguilera's track "Fall in Line" featuring and on Clean Bandit's song "Solo".

12. Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez kept her producing gig in the series "13 Reasons Why" and she also released a song as part of its soundtrack "Back to You". Selena once again voiced the character Mavis, in Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.

13. Camila Cabello
After her stint with the group Fifth Harmony, Camila has successfully moved on to do solo projects. Her album "Camila" debuted in 2018 which includes her hit "Havana" released late 2017.

14. Nicki Minaj
The Queen rapper Nicki Minaj made herself busy in 2018 with several collaborations with marquee artists. The best and well publicized of them all comes with "Idol", her single with the K-pop superstars BTS which became a global hit and instant phenomenon.

15. Anne-Marie
"2002" is one of the best underrated songs of 2018. The British singer is slowly gaining popularity in the US and mainstream audience in the past year. In late 2018, she and James Arthur recorded "Rewrite the Stars" for the re-recording of its soundtrack, The Greatest Showman: Reimagined.

16. Beyonce
As Beyonce puts it, she is not too keen on commercial success anymore and with her recent release in 2018 which saw moderate success, it can be clearly seen that she is taking a serious artistic route. "Apeshit" which she released with husband Jay-z is one of the best gems of the past year.

17. Billie Eilish
Talented young artist Billie Eilish is slowly making her mark in the music industry. She released several songs to moderate success but also has shown great strides in her popularity. In 2018, she was included in the OST for "13 Reasons Why" with her song "Lovely" together with Khalid.

18. Rita Ora
Rita Ora may not be as successful in the US compared to UK but she remains to be one of the more followed stars of 2018. In the past year she released the single "For You" with Liam Payne as part of the soundtrack for "Fifty Shades Freed".

19. Bebe Rexha
Bebe released her album "Expectations" in the middle of 2018 which contains her song "Say My Name" with J. Balvin and David Guetta. And I still can't get over her song "Meant To Be" which was a huge hit in 2017.

20. SZA
SZA's breakthrough single for 2018 comes with her successful collaboration with Kendrick Lamar "All The Stars" which was featured in the Black Panther OST.

These are the other women that showed success in 2018.
