2018 TOP OPM GROUPS

It is nice to see the music landscape of the Philippines evolving into more genre and the groups of today are not just dominated by rock/alternative ones but also hip-hop and pop as well. Here are the outstanding groups from 2018.


1. Ben & Ben
Last Year: 12
This band vaulted into the top in 2018 with "Balik-Balikan" featuring Sam Concepcion and "Maybe The Night" which continued its streak in the 2018 charts.


2. December Avenue
Last Year: N/A
If you want a tearjerker experience in listening to music, then December Avenue is just right at your alley. This band's single "Bulong" was a commercial success but what made them one of the most streamed bands of the past year is their collaboration with Moira Dela Torre, "Kung Di Rin Lang Ikaw" which also had a very touching music video.


3. TNT Boys
Last Year: N/A
Keifer Sanchez, Mackie Empuerto, and Francis Concepcion may have not won in their respective forays in the Tawag ng Tanghalan stage but collectively they won the hearts of fans. Their outstanding covers and high-pitched voice made everyone notice not just here but also around the world.


4. Boyband PH
Last Year: 3
After a successful 2017, this pop boygroup followed it with another strong year in 2018. Boyband PH released "Para sa Tabi" in 2018 and the group composed of Ford Valencia, Joao Constancia, Niel Murillo, Russell Reyes, and Tristan Ramirez are instant hits with women. Well, they are indeed gorgeous and sings well so no question on that.


5. Hale
Last Year: 2
Hale released their 5th studio album in 2018 entitled "Alon" and fans of these guys went into frenzy. They made the rounds on several music festivals and concerts last year that made them very visible to their followers.


6. SB19
Last Year: N/A
P-pop is now making its mark in the Philippine music scene much to the likeness to our fervor with K-pop sound. SB19 debuted last year and they have already made a mark and starting to get their names known. Their single "Tilaluha" is a wonderful debut single for this talented young guys.


7. Agsunta
Last Year: N/A
This band is famous for their cover versions of famous songs and they are one of the most viewed Pinoy groups in YouTube. Hope they will keep their star from shining this year.


8. Itchyworms
Last Year: 5
"Di Na Muli" became the latest hit from this band and it was all well enough to keep them on the list as one of the best bands out there.


9. This Band
Last Year: N/A
This Band is a relatively new group in the biz just debuting in 2017 but they have already received a steady following among Filipino fans.


10. Ex Battalion
Last Year: N/A
Hip-hop and rap is oftentimes seen in solo artists in the Philippines but Ex Battalion showed that they can come in groups as well and we are not complaining. Their song "Hayaan Mo Sila" made the airwaves in 2018 and here's to more of them this year.


11. The Juans
Last Year: 15
The group released their latest album in 2018 "Umaga" which also has the carrier single of the same name to a great success.


12. MNL48
Last Year: N/A
Showtime produced this pop female group which is the fifth international sister group of AKB48 from Japan. The young ladies are proving their mettle in the music scene with their single "Pag-ibig Fortune Cookie" a certified hit.


13. SUD
Last Year: 1
SUD covered OPM Rock classic Kitchie Nadal's 2004 hit rock song Huwag Na Huwag Mong Sasabihin in 2018 much to the delight of their fans.


14. Hashtags
Last Year: 10
It's Showtime is slowly showing that it can produce great stars on its program. And these talented young actors/dancers/singers is definitely here to stay.


15. Callalily
Last Year: N/A
It is a great feat that Callalily has been around since 2006 and is still relevant up to these days. This Kean Cipriano led band is among the busiest in the concert music scene in the past few years.


16. True Faith
Last Year: N/A
If we are talking about longevity then True Faith is definitely among the best. The band which has been in the biz since 1991 released their album Little Dark Age. The result of this was True Faith's New Order-inspired Filipino version of the song, titled "Ako at si Michael."


17. Over October
Last Year: N/A
Underrated band Over October deserves all the praise they are receiving. This rock/alternative band released their single "Wait" in 2018 with its accompanying video.


18. Moonstar 88
Last Year: N/A
Moonstar 88 remains to be one of the few bands that can easily be named as best in terms of their performance and song writing which has already been tested by time.


19. Unit 406
Last Year: N/A
With a song in the successful series "Bagani" entitled "Mandirigma", everyone else took notice of this talented bunch and their followers and fans have grown in the past year.


20. Sandwich
Last Year: N/A
People may know Sandwich through Marc Abaya but even with its current roster they can still pack a punch. In 2018, Sandwich celebrated their 20th Year by releasing a new single called 'Time Lapse'.
