PHILIPPINES HANGS TIGHT IN DAVIS CUP

The Philippine Men's Tennis Team hangs tight and avoided relegation in Davis Cup. The RP Team remained in Group 1 of Davis Cup Asia/Oceania zone after taking a dramatic come from behind victory over South Korea.

The RP Team was down 2-0 after the first singles and need to win the last remaining matches to stay out of Group 2. And they did it in style and with grit determination. Team captain Cecil Mamiit and Treat Conrad Huey (in photo) who both lost their opening singles teamed up to the take victory in the doubles match against Hyun-Joon Kim and Jae-Min Seol 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.

Mamiit then won the fourth rubber when Lim Yong-Kyu retired with the score at 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 1-1 with the Korean leading. Huey then closed the deal by dispatching Korean bet Jeong Suk-Young 7-5, 7-5, 6-3.

Other members of the national squad are Vicente Elberto Anasta and Johnny Arcilla.
